*Here are some additional initiatives that colleges can implement. These are not listed with 3 phases, but rather are a list of individual initiatives.*
LGBTQ+ Campus Liaisons
Per CA Ed Code Section 66271.2 (2011), ensure that your college has an LGBTQ+ Campus Liaison and that their name and contact information is listed on the website.
Board of Trustees Resolutions
Both a strategy and a goal, Board of Trustees resolutions can both be a visible representation of where your college/district stands on LGBTQIA2+ issues, but they can also serve as mechanisms to force colleges to make positive changes at their institutions.
Here are two examples:
And here is a template for a general DEI Resolution provided by the CCC Chancellor’s Office:
Trans and Non-Binary/LGBTQIA2+ Employee Resource Group
While not directly specific to trans and non-binary student support, this work can get tiring, especially for those that are one of only a few people doing this work on a particular campus. Maybe even one of the few openly LGBTQIA+ employees on that campus at all. Having a queer and trans-affirming space for employees can help reduce burnout by building community and boosting support for each other. This group can also serve to share resources and information about employee benefits, such as medical benefits or family planning and parental leave. An employee resource group can also foster opportunities for mentorship or professional development, developing a pathway for career advancement for trans and non-binary employees.
