Clothing and Accessories

1. Direct students to local clothing swaps and/or BuyNothing groups.

This can increase students’ access to free clothing and accessories. This will not only be helpful for trans and non-binary students who want to explore other styles of clothing, it will also be helpful for students with teenage children who still quickly grow out of clothing sizes, students who are gaining or losing weight, houseless students who those who lost their belongings through tragedy.

2. Host a regular clothes swap on campus.

Depending on capacity of staffing and time, clothing swaps can be held weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or semesterly. At minimum, all that is needed for this is a space with some tables, available over a specific amount of time. People can, rather informally, drop off new or clean, gently used clothes, and/or take any clothes they’d like.

3. Have a fully open campus Clothes Closet and a mini clothes closet at an LGBTQIA2+ Center.

These spaces could also include makeup, tucking/packing/binding supplies, bags, and other gender-affirming items.

Include a sign for the college’s full Clothes Closet for additional support.
